touching.
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/02/21/steeling_their_courage/

and apparently there was a rainbow yesterday.
a huge, wide one.
at first i thought "what's the big deal?" when my sister/jess/vann all said they saw a rainbow,
then i realized its been long since i last saw a rainbow.
no pot of gold, but a car'll do just as fine.
okay, this is yesterday's rainbow.
picture taken by my sister's friend.
a little double-rainbow eh?
i read that rainbows are full circles,
we only see half because the horizon gets in the way.
a pilot, for example, can see the whole rainbow.
like this (link)
rainbows aside,
i like to read whole archives of interesting websites.
right now im killing my eyes reading every strip of cyanide and happiness,
which dates back from 2005, with one strip every single day.
and also fmylife (link),
which is funny and sad,
and most of the time both.
i've read the whole 107-page archive :D
Give thanks.
sometimes i feel i should be scolded, berated,
for not doing what i should be doing.
like getting into university.
but my parents are so supportive,
i cannot appreciate them enough.
everyone has their own story.
every group has their own story.
when you walk past people sitting in a group at a table,
they have their own story as a clique,
who they are,
how they met.
my dad came home this morning to attend uncle mak's wake and funeral (on thursday).
this afternoon, because we were doing nothing in particular,
he told me his clique's story.
and it was cute.
how all of them met and got to know each other,
all 11 of them,
who sit at the "adults" table during CNY,
while i sit at the "childrens" table,
never fully appreciating how their friendship has lasted about 40 years.
Death has claimed one for his own..
one of my dad's close friend suffered a heart attack the night before last,
and passed away this morning.
we see him every chinese new year,
ever since i can remember.
my dad's secondary school clique.
this year was no different.
its only been a month since we last met!
secondary school.
they've all known each other since they were about 15,
and now they're about 55,
and one of them is gone.
what's shaken me most is that his children are my brother's and my age.
but, as lionel says, anything can happen..
my dad is flying back tomorrow.
i wonder if i will see jiamin and jiade next year.
omggggggggggggggggg jiro (and rainie. and some other guy) was at causeway point yesterdayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
and whats killing me is how i was moping about (refer to post before last),
with nothing to do.
WELL THERE WAS SOMETHING TO DO!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Idol Pursuits - S.H.E.
okay that's misleading.
for one, i dont like the term "idol" because it brings to mind fanatical worshipping, and also because it reminds me of a small little wooden statue, which isn't quite similar to y'know, humans.
and also "pursuit" because we didnt take a cab to stalk them from the airport to hotel to autograph session to hotel to airport.
but still, the description is succint.
just so happened the autograph session was at eastpoint,
a convenient ten minutes busride away.
so we (kael and i) decided to meet up for lunch and bump into S.H.E.
lunched at the pretty long john!
they should have come up with the new combo agessssss ago.
one piece fish and one piece chicken - yay yay yay!
kael noted that it was a day for people to spill their drinks.
too-heavy cup + incompatible plastic lid = mop the flooreastpoint at its mostcrowded in about ten years.
no, seriously.
since it was an autograph session,
there was a queue.
a gigantic, humongous queue that snaked almost all around the building (i say "almost" because we didnt walk around the building to check).
proud "free hello kitty" times.umbrella, ella, ella, hebe, selina.
what amazed me was how normal/casual they were.
no costumes and stuff.
due to a muffled microphone reception + my fantastic understanding of chinese,
didnt really listen to what they were talking about.
hebe was having a major offday.
ella talked the most,
selina was cheerful and bubbly,
and hebe acted like she didnt know what she was doing there.
even when they were dancing.the fans are so cute.
they look like they're doing mass arm exercise.how it feels to be a celebrity.
they love me, they really do.see the black plastic bags behind them?
thats where all the loving, painstakingly handcrafted fanmails go.
unceremoniously plucked from the hands of your idols and chucked into the Big Black Bag we've all come to associate with garbage bins.
i wonder if they read fanmail,
and i wonder even more if they reply fanmail.
it must be a nice feeling to receive cards and letters motivating you,
although it might be abit weird receiving total adoration from people you dont know and dont remember, but they know you and they remember you.
on a side note,
came across in today's newspapers that S.H.E. are appearing on local stamps.
isnt that nice, now fans can give them fanmail with their own stamps on the envelopes.
but then, the limited edition MyStamps set costs $59.90
and fanmail given personally dont even need stamps.
anyway they signed about millions of autographs,
kael and i kept checking on the crowd of people outside.
the number of people didnt seem to dwindle even by the time we left,
and by then it had been about two hours since they started signing,
so some people might have queued in vain.
poor souls.
for one, they stood in that nongnongnongnong queue,
and for two, in order to get the autograph they didnt manage to get, they missed seeing them on stage.
was a nice way to spend a saturday afternoon.
and strangely, the best time was watching them while they signed autographs.
that, and when kael said "look at the chickens running down the slope." while we were waiting for the bus home.
sure, having loads of time on my hands ought to be a good thing.
there's no one to blame but myself if there's nothing to do,
because there's so many things i can be doing.
every day it's the same.
nobody at home.
eating dinner alone.
no, there's beth, and miko.
and the clock's stopped.
the irony.
still, better fully savour this feel of.. nothingness.
school is starting,
that means working hard and having muchmuchmuch less time to mope around.
interesting stuff in the newspapers today
(to me, i mean. lol)

Life's section on how singaporean chinese popstar-wannabes go to taiwan first to make their name.
which is what ive always thought about,
like, sun yanzi, kelly pan, jj lin.
i like taiwan's entertainment scene
(gee, i wonder what gave me away)
#2
s.h.e.'s having an autograph session tomorrow at east point.
of all places?
maybe tamp mall's too crowded.

JUST FOR LAUGHS GAGS IS? ARE? COMING TO SINGAPORE!
now i'll be extra careful out on the streets.
i love justforlaughs gags.
and i used to wonder how come the pranked victims are all so goodnatured,
then i realized maybe they edit out the badtempered ones, so..
be careful on the streets :D
i am SO proud of myself today :D
woke up earlier than usual,
(in other words - before noon)
and i havent been sitting in front of the computer the whole day,
like ive been doing zzz
went swimming with my sister,
where once again i proved the fact that i dont tan, i cook.
TWO MINUTES, BABY!
two minutes, and i just went from boiled-chicken-white to painful-to-look-at-red.
sister and i were inspired by bakerella,
a genius cupcake/cake decorater with a blog documenting her experiments.
and she takes the most awesome pictures!
suuuuper cute!
taken like a professional.
and she has a very blessed niece who helps her out, and on whose works she sometimes base her creations on.
how can anyone not be inspired by that?
which explains why we blew a bunch of NTUC vouchers at NTUC (duhhhh),
picking up mixes and baking ingredients.
my sister whipped up a batter from scratch.
it has sooooo much sugar a diabetic can faint reading the instructions.
she also made those thickthick frosting that goes on top of cupcakes giving them those ohsocute dash of colour.
but them cuppycakes arent ready yet because my sister had to rush off,
so right now theyre just sitting happy in the kitchen.
naked.
HAHA!
sigh, we're regular betty crocker's now eh.
since kael had the idea of making cookies for valentine's.
i saved the msn conversation somewhere,
let me find it...
Kaelala! says:
but I was wondering if we could melt, pour, and then add things like strawberry syrup etc
Kaelala! says:
let the boyfriends be guinea pigs
hoho.
it was fun imagining force-feeding them,
giving them stomach medicine etcetc.
so last thursday was Round One.
we experimented with the dough,
this being our first time.
and we didnt have cookie cutters,
so we used knives instead D:
and 8days had an idiotproof (*coughs) truffles recipe,
but we managed to burn the chocolate.
because we werent supposed to melt it.
carried away, carried away.
so friday was Round Two.
for the truffles actually, but it was too runny.
my sister's truffles came out fine though.
with a little piece of strawberry hidden inside :D
and she wanted to bake cookies,
so i had a share too.
and i bought little cookie cutters,
so we made little cookies.ah yes.
lots of small, little cookies.i didnt forget all my (other) sweethearts! :D
saturday, The Day itself,
was attempt 3 at making truffles (for me).turned out very nice (with strawberry treasure too :D)
replaced a few ferrero rochers with my very own deadly ones, teeeheeeheee.
just caught bee movie on HBO,
and i still think it sucks really bad.
especially that mosquito-lawyer dig,
"hey, i'm already a bloodsucking parasite, all i need is a briefcase!"
its not even funny.
ah, my sister's back.
time to get decorating! :D
there is this BLOODY (and i mean that very literally) mosquito who just WON'T. QUIT. SUCKING. MY. BLOOD.
slumdog millionaire was gooooooood.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
and as only "old birds" can,
lionel and i didnt go out, or even see each other, today.
:D
considering that he slept about 2 hours the night before,
and reached home around o830,
if i dragged him out today - that'll be abusing him.
(more than usual, i mean.)
not to say he won't be a walking zombie.
when i called him in the morning he was saying something about how casper (his terrier) ate his specs
o.O
(nonono, of course im not insinuating he's sleeptalking.)
besides, this way i'm giving him time to go out and get me a foxtrot book as a present.
:D :D :D
HAHA NO LA.
oh, it's also the week schools celebrate friendship week right?
HAPPY FRIENDSHIP WEEK!
and to all my lovelylovely friends:
just like on MSN, even though i appear offline and you can't see me, i'm always here.
HAHAHA!
i thought of that line myself, lol.
so even though i dont like the over-commercialization and too-stereotypical valentine's day,
hope everyone had a wonderful, if not super, February 14th.
because, like my sister said, it's nice to have a day dedicated to love,
all kinds of love.
:)
and well, yesterday was an awesome Friday the 13th.
caught a movie about bestfriends with my best friend :D
bride wars was really, really good.
and i received an admissions letter from NYP!
yessiree, yours truly is going to become a white clothing angel!
:D :D :D
p.s. this post has alot of smileys.
dont they look cute?
:D :D :D
from my sister's friend:
Q: why are valentine's day and qing ming jie similar?
A: you burn money for your loved ones
happy valentine's day!
saw this poster at tampines mall,
kept urging lionel to attend.
on a side but serious note,
dating violence is no laughing matter.
just look what happened to rihanna.
ALOHA!
lazing and moping around all day is taking its toll.
i feel super useless and listless and restless,
i cant sleep at night, and i cant wake up in the morning.
and im spending way too much time in front of the computer.
i read bitsandpieces and perezhilton every single day,
i keep revisiting websites and blogs before they're updated.
was just wondering how come there hasnt been movie adaptations of mitch albom's books,
when i found out that there are.
with one starring jon voight, no less.
but youku loads suuuuuuper slowly :c
i like for one more day and the five people you meet in heaven.
although i know tuesdays with morrie wont disappoint,
i dont want to read it.
maybe 'cos i dont like the setting.
WARNING.
fairly long hei se hui - related musing coming up.
im the only one i know who is this taken with them.
watched the chinese new year episode of 我愛黑澀棒棒堂,
which was filmed on the same day as their red vs. white special.
and there was an episode on chu yi as well.
made me wonder how many episodes they film in a day.
anyway this particular episode made me think about alot of things.
#1
finally its confirmed true that andy made them sign a contract which forbade dating.
underlined in red.
lol.
#2
whether everything is scripted or not,
whether theyre doing/saying something just for the sake of ratings and entertainment.
and that the producers arent deaf to what fans are saying.
that the celebrities themselves arent deaf to what fans are saying.
because they made the meimeis and the didis choose "the one they get along with best" from the opposite side.
which is really quite similar to "who do you like best from the other side?"
and which is totally genius because it piques fans' interest,
and it shows the producers who to not pair with each other in upcoming projects.
#3
the whole xiaoxun-wangzi-guigui-yanyalun thing.
95% of the comment section has to do with them.
it amuses me to see people get so worked up over this issue.
over the "couples" that fans would most like to see.
in fact, most of these fans are wangzi's.
its all guiwang, wangxun, wangya.
(zzz i really dont like wangzi.)
and then it escalates into ihateguigui and ihatexiaoxun clubs.
which is really stupid,
because gui and xun themselves sure look chummy with each other.
sure, i felt a little sad when xiaojie didnt pick xiaojie,
and xiaojie didnt pick xiaojie too.
(LOL. that would only make sense to those who are familiar)
and it was really sweet that ao quan still picked daya :D
most of them picked their partners for the red vs. white.
though xiaoyu picked yatou because of the two chun li buns she was sporting.
he said he liked girls who tied their hair in twos,
and he was debating between hannah and yatou,
but yatou's hairbuns were bigger (and cuter),
so he picked yatou.
how quirky is that?
and its still undeniable that guigui and wangzi have the biggest fanbase.
that high school they attended must be doing something right.
#4
that its been three years since theyve first started out.
they looked sooooooooo young back then.
and it hit me hard that theyve been in so many episodes,
in so many "talent competitions" on the show.
theyve really done alot.
#5
on a side note,
i really dont want momo love to materialize.
i hate the fact that gui has to chase yanyalun again.
but their "ou xiang ju wang/idol drama king" play was freaking hilarious.
they spoofed alot of dramas in 2008.
bu liang xiao hua.
xiaoxun was actually worse than rainie, which is saying something.
and ahben was damn funny again!
red cliff.
i didnt get when apple was talking to the horse and asking it to stand,
then when it hit me i almost bust another gut.
the legend of the brown sugar chivalries,
which was their own drama, but still.
rolling love, fated to love you.
pi li MIT, where everyone teased guigui about yanyalun.
hot shot - superman, superman, lol.
and rongjia was super high.
ah, entertainment.
it is pretty entertaining.
i wonder what they'll be like in say, ten years from now.
It’s not a computer virus, but for some Facebook members, it’s starting to feel like one. It’s called the "25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you," and it seems all the kids are doing it. The Facebook notification pops up in your e-mail or Facebook "wall" with instructions to list these 25 things and tag 25 of your own “friends” to do the same.
The only thing lacking in this dubious invitation is the dire threat of a chain letter — that failure to comply means certain death in say, the next 25 days. Well, turnabout is fair play. Let's see how YOU like it, Facebook!
1. Facebook fosters the illusion that every person you know actually cares that you left your Nikes in the locker room at Crunch
2. Nobody cares that you left your Nikes in the locker room at Crunch.
3. If you join Facebook to find out what your kids are up to, you might actually find out what your kids are up to.
4. You don’t want to find out what your kids are up to.
5. Unless, of course, you want to find photos of your 19-year-old daughter making out with another 19-year-old coed for the edification of a bunch of 19-year old dudes doing beer bongs. (That’s age 19, if you’re lucky.)
6. You can announce your divorce on Facebook via the heart icon thingy.
7. Don’t announce your divorce on Facebook.
8. Don’t announce your divorce on Facebook for a number of reasons, the least of which is that all your "friends" will respond on your "wall" with sympathies that in a different era would've been delivered in privacy. You wouldn’t console somebody by shouting across a room full of people. Why are you doing it on a Facebook "wall?"
9. You people take Facebook way too seriously.
10. A woman was killed after changing her relationship status on Facebook.
11. Remember that Burger King "Whopper Sacrifice" application that allegedly offered a free Whopper coupon for every 10 friends you dumped? Well, you probably shouldn’t have dumped a couple of your oldest friends, two of which are hardcore vegans. At least one of them didn’t find it hilarious at all and now they won’t “re-friend” you.
12. If you join Facebook to find people you used to know, you’re just as likely to find your middle school BFF Jill as you are to reignite the passions of that one guy from Photography class who has been stalking you since junior college.
13. "Don’t Get Botox"
14. Facebook can get you fired. Yes, you. Just like you are not that one person who can drive safely while talking on a cell phone, you are not that one person who is in no danger of getting fired for something stupid posted by or about you on Facebook
15. What’s more, your boss is on Facebook. If you join, you’re going to have to decide whether to accept his or her "friendship." If you accept, you risk losing your job for something he or she stumbles upon. If you attempt to play it safe by not accepting your boss’s "friendship," you risk losing your job for offending him or her.
16. Oh, and you’re also at risk of alienating your oldest friends by bumping their rank in your "Always show these friends" box. We’re talking your adult friends, like, in their 30s and 40s, with jobs and kids and all kinds of grown-up responsibilities.
17. Your otherwise grown-up friends are angry at you for bumping their "Always show these friends" rank because obviously you’re trying to communicate some kind of super secret Facebook message along the lines of, "I value your friendship two-people less today than I did yesterday." It’s like watching your friendship stock plummet.
18. The esteemed widow of former Emperor of Malawi did not just send you a "friend" request, nor is she bearing a unique and prosperous offer straight out of Nigeria just for you.
19. And while we’re on the subject, I'VE JUST BEEN HELD UP AT GUNPOINT IN LONDON AND I NEED YOU TO SEND ME $600 NOW!!!!!
20. Facebook is most concerned about Your Privacy. (And the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny are friends!)
21. Don’t connect your Facebook and Twitter accounts. People you haven’t heard from for, like, seven years — people you never thought you were friends with — will leave lame and annoying comments on your Tweets.
22. It’s like, hey, if you want to rekindle the friendship I never thought we had, call me or at least send a private e-mail. Jeez.
23. OK, the cool thing about having your Facebook and Twitter accounts connected is that your Tweets show up as your status updates. But then, if people respond on Twitter and maybe ask you something, and you respond via Twitter, it shows up as your Facebook status, and that’s annoying.
24. While you're sending zombie challenges to all your "friends," there's a guy in Egypt using Facebook to foment democracy.
25. Eventually, someone will post photos from your high school yearbook. Dang, your hair was big.
Naw, but seriously. You kids are awesome! Come "friend" me on Facebook!

wedding game talk
finally saw lionel after three weeks!
thats a super nongnnongnongnong time okay.
curious case of brad pitt hadnt opened yet,
so we caught the wedding game.
y'know there's this big hooha over who will win at box office:
wedding game or love matters (henry thia and yeo yann yann).
i think alot of people will watch both leh?
for me, i didnt watch wedding game for fann or chris,
i watched for heiren! :D
but his character damn weird la.
my ultra favourite scene was when jack hanged all of vicky's toys from the ceiling,
then decapitated the lion.
FREAKIN' FUNNY!
(poor lion. dont traumatised k lionel?)
won't watch the show again though.
wii talk
my. shoulders. are. aching.
my mum's mii is super cute! :D
my house is a mini entertainment center.
mahjong talk
played my first-ever game of money mahjong yesterday!
with my sister, corne and benny.
the arrangement was so random my sister and i cant quite get our heads around it.
benny, whom i last talked to when stepping down from twe.
who was in the same school as my sister for two years but theyve never talked.
who laughed at my sister's "mo pai" louder then a concorde taking off.
in depth mahjong talk
this is too exciting not to share.
i had all four animals and my flower!
five tai limit already,
then i zi mo-ed a hong zhong to game!
WAHAHAHA!
benny's and corne's face daammmmnnnedddd stunned lo.
super exciting :D
